Ireen Shines, thanks to MWF!
The transformational power of the Malawi Washington Foundation Scholarship programme is evident through the graduates it continues to churn out through various institutions of higher learning.
Recently, we celebrated another medical graduate and distinguished participant of the Malawi Washington Foundation scholarship program, Ireen Wezzie Kamanga.
The 25-year-old joined the scholarship program in 2020 while in second year at Malawi College of Medicine where she was pursuing a Bachelor of Science Physiotherapy (honours) degree, after scoring a stunning 12 points in the [2018] Malawi School Certificate of Examinations.
She describes her first year in college as hard due to financial obstacles.
“I survived first year with help from friends under the college’s Seventh Day Adventists church until FAWEMA came to my rescue in the second year,” she says.
Today, all that pain is history. Ireen is now a fully qualified physiotherapist, having graduated from the college on 30th April, 2025 with strong credit.
“I thank FAWEMA and Malawi Washington Foundation for the scholarship program. They have enabled me to fulfil my dream. My target now is to get a master’s degree and later a PhD in physiotherapy,” says Ireen.
FAWEMA joins Ireen in celebrating this huge achievement as she moves on to be of service to humanity!
