Running from 2024 to 2030, the seven-year project marks a significant expansion of the original program. Initially operating in just three countries—Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda—the second phase now includes ten countries across Africa. The newly added countries are Malawi, Liberia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Tanzania. This broader reach reflects a strategic effort to increase equity in higher education by targeting underserved populations, especially young women and men from marginalized communities.
In addition to the provision of scholarships, the programme also integrates support services such as mentorship, life skills training, and academic bridging programs to ensure that beneficiaries are well-prepared for success in tertiary institutions. FAWE Malawi’s role is to coordinate and implement these efforts locally, helping to identify eligible participants, support their academic journey, and contribute to national goals for inclusive education.
In Malawi, the project seeks to directly impact 1,350 marginalized young women and men access higher education through:
- Technical Education and Vocational Training (TEVET) programmes at the country’s various public technical colleges and;
- Bridging programmes at various public universities in STEM programmes.
