With funding from NORAD/SCI, FAWEMA implemented Reducing Teenage Pregnancies in 5 districts in Malawi namely, Machinga, Mchinji, Phalombe, Balaka, and Ntcheu. The project was from July 2014 to December 2016. The goal of the project was to reduce teenage pregnancies among adolescent girls in Malawi. This was done through activities like.

  • Facilitation of re-entry of teen mothers into school through role modeling and girls camping. Over 600 girls reached across the country.
  • Facilitation of establishment/strengthening of Mother Group and orientation on their roles and responsibilities. 1,260 mother group members were trained.
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights education through Open Days, Quiz Competitions. Over 95,000 learners reached across the country.
  • Interface meetings on gender-based violence.
  • Trained 1,356 teachers (950 males, 406 females) in primary schools to effectively deliver life skills to adolescent girls and boys.
  • Trained school structures 1,211 (784 males, 473 females) such as Parents & Teacher Associations, School Management Committees on supporting girls to prevent pregnancies and reintegrating teen mothers into school, addressing dropout.
