With funding from DFID through Save the Children, FAWEMA from October 2014 to June 2017 implemented a project called Keeping Girls in School –Improving School Experience and Environment.  The project was implemented in 10 districts namely, Karonga, Mzimba, Mchinji, Lilongwe, Salima, Ntcheu, Mangochi, Zomba, Chikwawa, and Nsanje. The aim of the project was to keep girls in school by providing a conducive learning environment. The following activities were used.

  • Trained 700 Mother Groups on the roles, responsibilities, guidance, support, and community linkages in all 10 districts.
  • Established female teachers’ role model networks at zone and district levels, where female teachers had a forum that discussed issues of girls’ education.
  • Facilitated girls’ advocacy weekends where girls had a platform to speak truth to duty bearers on issues that affect them.
