This is a five-year (October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2029) initiative funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program. Implemented by a consortium of CARE, FAWEMA, Water Aid, and the Government of Malawi, the project seeks to accelerate education and nutrition outcomes for vulnerable children in six districts of Malawi. The districts are Lilongwe West, Kasungu, Ntcheu, Thyolo, Mulanje, and Chiradzulu districts, targeting 81 primary schools and 25 ECD centers. These districts represent a diverse mix of rural communities where children face challenges of food insecurity, limited access to quality education, and poor health services. By addressing both the learning environment and child wellbeing, the project will lay a strong foundation for improved literacy, health, and food security while supporting Malawi’s transition toward a sustainable, government-led school feeding program. The TIWOLOKA Project represents a holistic approach to education and nutrition, integrating school feeding, literacy, health, WASH, agriculture, and advocacy into one comprehensive program. Through strong partnerships and active engagement with the Government of Malawi, TIWOLOKA will contribute to sustainable national systems, paving the way for Malawi’s eventual graduation from donor support while ensuring that children are well-fed, healthy, and able to learn.
