CODE, together with FAWEMA, delivers the Tiyeni Tiwerenge – Let’s Read Ntchisi project to improve the literacy skills for standard 3 and 4 primary school learners in Kayoyo Zone, Ntchisi. The project will achieve this by building the capacity of teachers using CODE’s quality teaching and learning framework (QTLF), which supports teachers to use their pedagogical skills, knowledge and experience and apply them in practice to respond to their teaching contexts and consider the specific needs of their learners in the classroom context. The project also supports the creation of an interactive text rich environment in the classroom to increase the level of text learners are exposed to and engage with to strengthen their literacy skills. The project will also help improve the teacher pupil ratio by recruiting assistant teachers for the targeted classes who will work closely with practicing teachers and be supported through teacher learning circles (TLCs).

The project will benefit a total of 1831 learners in the eleven (11) targeted schools in Kayoyo zone as direct beneficiaries and strengthen the capacity of 33 teachers, 15 of whom will be newly recruited assistant teachers.
